Returns & Refunds Policy

How to return a device, when refunds apply and your rights under the CPA and ECTA.

Last updated 21 October 2026

2.1 Eligible online cooling-off returns

For online transactions covered by section 44 of the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act (ECTA), customers may cancel goods within seven calendar days after receiving them, without giving a reason or paying a penalty. Eligible service transactions may be cancelled within seven days after conclusion, subject to statutory exceptions. The customer may pay the direct cost of returning goods. Where section 44 applies, refunds are made within 30 days after cancellation.

Please take reasonable care of returned products and include accessories where available. Opening a box, connecting to Wi-Fi or inserting a SIM card does not automatically cancel a statutory return right. Statutory exceptions, including certain personalised goods and services already begun with consent, may apply.

2.2 In-store change-of-mind returns

There is no automatic right to return an otherwise compliant in-store purchase solely because of a change of mind. CellTechZA may approve an exchange or store credit as a goodwill arrangement for an unused, undamaged product with its packaging and accessories. Such voluntary arrangements do not affect statutory rights.

2.3 Faulty, damaged or incorrectly supplied goods

Under the CPA, qualifying defective goods may be returned within six months of delivery, without penalty and at CellTechZA’s risk and expense, for the customer’s applicable choice of repair, replacement or refund. This applies to qualifying new, refurbished and pre-owned devices. If goods repaired under the CPA’s defective-goods remedy develop an applicable recurring or further defect within three months, the statutory replacement or refund provisions apply.

We may reasonably inspect a device to establish the fault and its cause. New accidental damage, misuse, new liquid exposure and ordinary wear are generally excluded where they caused the fault. Unrelated damage, missing packaging or a previous repair will not automatically defeat a valid statutory claim. If we sent the wrong item or delivery damage occurred while the goods were at our risk, we will arrange the appropriate remedy and cover costs required by law.

2.4 Repair services and special orders

Repair services must be carried out with reasonable care and skill. If a repair does not meet the CPA’s service-quality requirements, the customer retains the applicable right to corrective work or a reasonable refund. New or reconditioned installed parts and installation labour have a minimum three-month warranty. Authorised diagnostic work and specially ordered parts may attract lawful, reasonable charges if a customer cancels; deposits are not automatically forfeited. Applicable online cooling-off rights and exceptions take precedence.

2.5 How to request a return

Email info@celltechza.co.za with your name, contact details, invoice or repair reference, device details and the reason for the request. We will provide return instructions or arrange collection where required. Please back up and remove personal data where possible. The absence of a return reference number does not invalidate a properly exercised statutory right.

For eligible online change-of-mind returns, the customer may pay the direct return cost. For valid CPA defective-goods returns, CellTechZA bears the applicable return risk and expense. Refunds are normally made to the original payment method or an appropriately verified alternative, within the applicable legal period. A statutory cash refund will not be replaced by store credit without the customer’s agreement.
